You wake up....look in the mirror....and think. "Dang...my hair sure needs a little pick me up". So you drive down to the drugstore, pick up a $5 box of color, run home and apply it to your head. In 15-20 minutes "VOILA!" The BEST HAIRCOLOR OF YOUR LIFE! What? That's not what happened? I'm not surprised!
What's wrong with box color? They have metals in them. And when the color fades out....the metals stay in your hair...leaving the brassy tones behind. Oh....and not to mention you have no idea what the peroxide strength is in the box, or the fact that your outcome may leave you with a different color from the base to the midstrand, to the ends of the hair. (Oh! That's what they meant by multidimensional highlights!)
You have dark hair and wanted to go blonde with that box color and now you're orange? NO SURPRISE! This is why you trust a salon professional to lighten your hair! Brunettes will need to have their blondes toned more often than not when going blonde. Dark hair will naturally pull warm, caramel-orange tones instead of pulling to that beautiful blonde. What? You tried putting a 2nd box of blonde on your hair to try to go MORE BLONDE and it didn't work? NO SURPRISE AGAIN. (read the first part of this paragraph and hit yourself over the head with that discarded box) The only thing you accomplished is FRYING your hair and now you may have only accomplished giving yourself severe damage so your hair will fall out, break off, or look like a synthetic wig.
So...you've put box color on your hair and now you hate it even more than BEFORE you colored it. Now what? Well, let's just say that $5 box color is now going to cost you anywhere from $200-$300 for a color correction in most reputable salons. Not only that, but you'll need multiple deep conditioning/protein treatments to get your hair back into shape. Taking the "easy cheaper way out" isn't the best way to do things. Go to a salon and trust a professional!
